Hello. Welcome to the 1st Barnt Green Scout and Guide fundraising web site.

Are you interested in helping the youngsters in Alvechurch, Cofton Hackett, Barnt Green, Blackwell, Burcot and Hopwood continue Guiding and Scouting in a safe welcoming and supportive environment. If so then please read the information below and make a donation to the appeal by clicking the Donate Now button in the top right hand corner or by going to the Make a Donation section of this site. Thank you!

Why?

In the early hours of the 25th June 2004 following England's football Euro 2004 defeat, the Scout hut belonging to the 1st Barnt Green Scout Group was mindlessly destroyed. The hut had been in constant use for 72 years since September 1932.

Since the fire our Cubs and Scouts have been meeting at the Guide hut in Barnt Green and the Beavers in the Baptist Church, they are now homeless.

The Guide hut is an old First World War wooden building erected in 1921 on its present site. The wear and tear resulting from over 90 years of constant use means that it is now in need of major repairs.

What Next?

We are replacing the burnt-out ruins of the Scout hut and the old Guide hall with a modern multi-purpose hall, a building that will be a solid foundation for future generations of young people and suitable for wider community use. It will be located on the Scout and Guide Field, off Blackwell Road, Barnt Green.

What will it Cost?

We estimate the cost of our proposed building project to be £320,000. So far we have raised £155,000. Some of this money has come from the Scout insurance (£34,500), fund-raising events, match funding and donations (£120,500). We also propose to raise £100,000 from the sale of the Guide hut land. We were unsuccessful in our application for Lottery funding, but are still applying to Trusts, Foundations and the Local Authorities. So this still leaves us with a short fall of £65,000.

Where are we Now?

The 1st stage of the build has started (January 2009) putting in foundations, steelwork and roof. Thanks to the generosity of a consortium headed by Digby Lord Jones of Birmingham we hope to raise funds on the guide land in the near future, subsequently stage two of the build will start. This will give us a watertight secure building ready for the internal fit.
